Task/Problem Overview
There are processes within Savance Enterprise where you’ll utilize different holding bins within your warehouse. This article will cover how to create and assign default holding bins in these scenarios.
Holding Bins by Default
By default, we have created holding bins within your warehouse location management. To view these bins go to Inventory > Warehouse Manager > Location and view in the Holding Bins pane.
You will see if it is the default bin it will have (Default Bin) next to the holding bin location.
Create/Edit and Remove Holding Bins
In the scenario that you wish to create more holding bin locations under the parent bin locations shown, highlight the parent holding bin and right-click to select ‘+Add Bin’
Enter the bin name and information, in the example below I am creating a location to hold all of my Will Calls ready for pick-up.
Once you’ve hit ok you will now see your Will Call bin listed.
To edit a Bin Location name, just highlight the bin location you wish to edit and right-click and select ‘Edit Bin’
Update your bin information and select ‘Ok’ to save.
To remove a bin, just highlight the bin location you wish to remove and right-click and select ‘Delete Bin’
Once you’ve selected ‘yes’ the bin will be removed from the listing.
Setting Default Bins
In the scenario, you wish to change the default bin, highlight the bin name and right-click to select ‘Set as Default Bin’. If there is a default bin already selected for that you will receive this message:
Once you’ve selected yes, your new holding-bin will now show as the default in your list.
Bin Admin & User Settings
In addition to creating and editing holding bins for your warehouse, you can also set preferred settings so the correct bins are selected in certain scenarios.
Admin Settings
Go to Admin > Administrator > Sites > Site Settings. Here you can automatically request that items that are selected as ‘Good’ condition will need to be placed back into their default location vs. another holding bin for inspection. This setting can also be found under the Warehouses > Warehouse Settings tab as well.
User Settings
Go to Settings > General Settings and select the Point of Sale tab. Here you can select which bins will default for a return action. In the example below, when an item is ‘Good’ it will be in the moving bin to go back into its default location.
If an item is Bad or Unknown it will automatically select the ‘Suspect on Hand’ bin for the item to be returned to for further inspection.
I can also default a return item status to always default to Good, Bad or Unknown.
NOTE: These are per-user settings and would have to be configured for each user’s login.
Understand Holding Bins and where they are used
Holding Bins are Moving Locations that are a part of the order, return, and receiving processes. By default, Savance has created the following bins:
-
Receiving Hold-Bin - after a PO has been received you can move the receiver and it’s content in the receiving holding bin until it is ready to be received and put away.
-
Staging Bins- these bins are used in delivery shipments. After a Pick Tick has been pulled the shipper can be placed in a staging bin before it is ready to pack for delivery and shipment.
-
In Transit Bins - while in the process of shipping orders, in transit bins are used when the packages are on the truck for delivery.
-
Shipping Hold Bins - these bins are used when an order is packed and ready for shipment but you have not loaded onto the truck yet.
-
Moving Bins - these are used when returning an item that is good and needs to be placed back into stock.
-
Put Away Holding Bins - anytime your receiving material, these items are automatically placed in this bin before you mark “put-away’.
-
Suspect On Hand Bins - during the return process any time you have a bad or unknown status of the returned material, the stock is automatically placed in this bin for further inspection.
-
Return to Vendor Holding Bins - Any time you create a RTV and you are waiting to either get a response from the vendor to return the material or, the material needs to be packed and shipped back to the vendor it is placed here.
-
Hold for Backorders Bins - After you’ve received materials and hit the ‘process backorders’ button you can pick the items for orders and place them in this bin before preparing the orders to be delivered.
You can also create your own holding bins to use within Savance such as Will Calls Bins, Pack & Hold Bins, etc. To create a new bin right-click within the holding bin pane and select ‘Add Bin’
Enter the name, description, type of bin and if it is part of a process i.e. Will Call.
Once you’ve selected, add your new bin will appear under the specific bin type you selected.
You can also delete, edit, remove the default and print a label for the bin just by highlighting the bin name and right-click.
